About the project

Purpose

Computational artefacts increasingly penetrate all spheres of life, not only in the shape of computational versions of traditional tools (e.g., typewriters and cameras) but also in the form of computational regulation of human interaction. Pertinent examples of such coordination technologies are electronic calendar systems and workflow management systems.

This is a radically new phenomenon in human history, but in spite of its huge economic and social importance we have no sound conceptual foundation for dealing with it: designing such artefacts, understanding their advantages and disadvantages, and organizing their use.

Thus, the objective of this project is to develop a systematic, conceptual foundation for understanding, designing and implementing computational coordination technologies in cooperative work settings, based upon empirical studies.

Participants

CompArt is a collaborative project between the University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen Business School, and the IT University of Copenhagen.

Funding

The project is funded by the Velux Foundation and the participating universities.
